PLACE: St. Paul Chong Ha Sang Church (Des Plaines)SPEAKER: Fr. Foeckler, Miles Jesu TOPIC: – Jesus always forgave sins
Fr. Foeckler gave us a lecture regarding mercy and forgiveness.
How did Jesus treat people?
How did Jesus act towards people?
Jesus suffered and died for them.
A woman who committed adultery was to be stoned to death, and Jesus
responded with “whoeverhas no sin may throw the first stone”. All of the
people knew they were also sinners, so they dropped their stones and left.
Jesus showed mercy to sinners.
Mercy
means forgiveness, not demanding punishment. Mercy brings PEACE.
21 Then Peter went up to him and said, ‘Lord, how
often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? As often as seven
times?’ 22 Jesus
answered, ‘Not seven, I tell you, but seventy-seven times. –
Matthew 18:21-22
Jesus is not
telling us to forgive our brothers 490 times. He is telling us we should always forgiveour brothers when they
sin against us.
Jesus always tells
us, “Give and you will receive”; one of his most significant paradoxes, andan
alteration of the forgiveness of sins statement.
Every time you
feel offended, be ready to forgive.
“Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass
against us”
in Our Father
Prayer which Jesus taught to his disciples.
33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just
as I had on you?
–
Matthew 18:33
Jesus has two conditions for forgiveness from
God
–
You have to ask for it! You have to want it…
– God is always ready and willing to forgive through
confession.
–
You ALWAYS have to forgive others!
What if the people never ask God or
they don’t care about sins or they don’t have conscious?
Blessed Mary asked us to pray for:
– Conversion
of poor sinners: We ask for them the mercy and we have to pray for
them
– Reparation
of sins: “to make up for; to repair; to fix”
Starts with thy own sins
For others’ sins (good people & bad people)
When Jesus
died on the cross, he was mostly surrounded by enemies. However, he asked God
to forgive all of their sins.
When sin is “erased”,
the Life of God spreads, and peace is present.
We will have
the PEACE… -
