      **
September, 14th – Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross **

                “We
adore you O Christ and we bless you,

because by your Holy Cross you have
      redeemed the world.”

      Father
started to explain about the “exaltation” which means “lifting up” and questioned
      us.

      Why
do Catholics have a crucifix at church and in our rooms?

      – We
      remember Jesus better.

      – We
      remember what Jesus did.

      – We
remember that Jesus died for us.

More importantly, Jesus rose from the dead and saved
      us from our sins.

      Crucifix

      –  The crucifix is given a place of Honor.

      –  Cross with Jesus; Catholic Cross

      –  Catholics have Jesus on the Cross to remember
      his sacrifice.

      Jesus did many good
      things:

      – miracles

      – taught as a teacher; gave
us the beatitudes (the Sermon on the Mount)

      – died on the Cross as the
Son of God, and the Son of Mary

      Cross

      – Jesus
died for ME, so I don’t have to suffer from my sins.

      – A
sign of contradiction, but the symbol of
      LOVE.

      – Love
is what makes the Cross so powerful.

      – We
exalt the Cross because it’s the tool that makes us aware of how much Jesus
loves us,       and how evil sin is.

      Father told us the
story about marriage and that when the bride and bridegroom go to the church

      to
      be
married, they carry a Crucifix with them. The priest blesses the Crucifix
      and the bride

puts her right hand on the Crucifix, as the groom puts his right
      hand over hers.
      Both are together

and united to the Cross, and
the priest covers their hands and prays together so they

      wouldn’t forget to
      sacrifice for each other
      in their marriage.

      ** September, 15th – Feast of
      the Our Lady Sorrows **

Our Lady of Sorrow represents Mary and her sadness when
she knelt by Jesus on the Cross.

      – She was accepting of what was being done; did not
      feel anger

      – She worked with Jesus and showed us how to react to
unjustly actions, or to “turn the other cheek”

We learn from the Cross as Catholics, that’s why we
      look at the Cross.

Jesus saved the World. We could do little to sacrifice like Jesus.

      13 No one
has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven,
that is, the Son of Man who is
      in heaven
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the
wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
      15 that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but
       have eternal life.16 For God
so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in
Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
      17 For God
did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world
through Him might be saved. –
      John
      3:13-17
