Fr.
Foeckler begins with reading the Parable of ten virgins (Matt 25:1-13) |
Once again he reminds us that
the Bride is referred to Us and the Groom is referred to Jesus.
There were ten Virgins (five wise and
five foolish) who had lamps.
However only five wise virgins were prepared
and refilled their lamps.
While five foolish virgins
went to buy oil, the Bridegroom came home.
The parable is clear about
being ready for the returning of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
‘Lamp’
or ‘ light’ is also mentioned
in other stories in the bible.
“Let your lamp shine
before men so that they may see your goodworks and give glory to God”
(Matt 5:16)
“No one after lighting a
lamp puts in under the cellar or basket but on a stand”
(Luke 11:33)
The lamp represents Life. The
oil represents Good works.
The thing that makes the lamp
glow is oil.
Therefore the Good works makes our Life shine.
God wants us to be doing good
works in our life.
Just as you see the ‘ring or
halo’ on top of a saint, it represent the glow from the lamp within his soul.
The purpose of life is to do
ALL GOOD we can do in the time we have.
For example; go to mass,
confession, pray
love God the Father in
heaven
obey parents
be a good student and do
your best
This way we are given ‘merit’
according to our good works from God who gives us through His grace.
